Island Peak Climbing Expedition: A Success Story

Of the many trips our company Earthbound Expeditions offers to the adventure travelers from around the world, Island Peak Climbing Expedition combined with Everest Base Camp Trek is one and is an extremely exciting adventure trip. Our recent Everest Base Camp and Island Peak Climbing trip successfully completed the adventure and is already back in town.

Flying to Lukla from Kathmandu airport, the team of nine adventurers from India (Rachit, Manish, Kalpana, Nita, Kshitiza, Santanam, Rajshree Led by Aparna Prabhudesai and Maule Tamang) first started the trip towards Everest Base Camp.  Hiking, resting and acclimatizing to and in the beautiful mountain villages of Phakding, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep, the team reached the Everest Base Camp and did the Kalapatthar hike as well. All with success, the trip went safely back down to Dingboche where the team had to be divided in two groups, one to return back to Kathmandu and the other to go for Island peak climbing expedition. The climbing group was small only with two climbers, Rachit and Manish Jain, a guide and porters. The team to return back to Kathmandu trekked down towards Lukla where as the Island peak expedition team took a different route than the Everest Base Camp trail to Chhukum and ultimately to Island Peak base camp.

After trekking to Kalapatthar at the elevation of 5643 meters above sea level, the climbing team led by our climbing guide Maule Tamang was pretty much excited and a bit nervous too, at the same time, to start their summit attempt of the 6189 meters high Island peak the next day. The team prepared for the climb tomorrow at the base camp at the elevation of about 5090 meters above sea level. Arranging all the gear and equipment, discussing about the climbing part and safety measures, the team spent a good deal of time preparing for the demanding adventure of tomorrow.

The team started summit attempt at mid night on the 12th May. They were all set and excited for their adventurous feat. Maule was encouraging and motivating them for the climb at times he was equally focused to bring this climbing expedition to a success. Climbing up the icy slopes and ridge, using their climbing equipment, the team moved ahead keeping their spirit high. Their struggle up the mighty mountain did not go in waste. They finally succeeded to reach the summit at 08:30 am on the 12th May. The climax of the trip was achieved and the team was very happy on their successful summit attempt. They took another adventurous feat of climbing down the mountain to the base camp.

And they returned back to Kathmandu, trekking via Chhukum, Dingboche, Phakding and Lukla.

Congratulations team for the successful adventure!

The Island Peak Climbing Expedition can be combined with Everest three high passes trek as well or even take de tour towards Gokyo lakes.

The climbing expeditions have been exciting for this year as it did not happen for last two years. A lot of climbers are trying to summit the highest peak on earth – Everest this season.
By the time we published this story, 203 adventurers have reached the summit of Everest in total so far, which is obviously an exciting number.
