Gokyo Lake, Chola pass and the Everest Base Camp is a fantastic trek which crosses all the high valleys of Khumbu with an extra time to spend at the Gokyo Lake to explore the upper valley. You can stay at the bank of the Gokyo Lakes where the Khumbu range is reflected in the emerald green water below.

An optional excursion to Gokyo RI with stunning views of the Makalu and Everest may take a slight detour.

A flight to Lukla sets the scene for the splendors to come as you make your way up to Namche Bazaar, the vibrant center of the Sherpa existence. After getting acquainted to Namche Bazaar it’s time to trek up to Gokyo Lake and Chola pass towards the Everest Base Camp.

Eventually, we pass through Phortse Tenga and Machermo where the mountains are spectacular as well as enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Ngozumba Glacier, the largest of its kind within Nepal Himalayas. Passing through these villages will also give you a chance to explore the lifestyles of the high altitude inhabitants. The small herding settlement of Gokyo – 4,750meters / 15,584feet lies on the banks of the third lake in a series of small turquoise mountain lakes and on the ridge above Gokyo. The four peaks above 8000meters / 26,246 feet of Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu expose themselves plus you can also explore the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung – 7,922meters/25,991feet which is considered to be one of the most dramatic panoramas in the Khumbu region.

There are many options for additional exploration and high-altitude walking including the crossing of Cho La at 5,420meters / 17,782feet and the high passes into Khumbu and a hike to Gokyo RI at 5357meters/19,216feet.

From here you will head for the Everest Base Camp trail and the rocky summit of Kalapathar at 18,193 meters and its unrivaled close view of Mt. Everest and its giant neighbors. After accomplishing this expedition you will trek back through the major Everest Base Camp trek trail towards Tengboche monastery- the most important Buddhism center in the Everest region before descending to Lukla to fly back to Kathmandu the next day.
