  • option 1 : Nagarkot to Dhulikhel Hiking

    • 10 to max. 16 kilometers total hike in a day
    • Approximately 4 to 6 hours.

Nagarkot provides excellent mountain panorama in a clear day. The day hike from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel is mostly downhill through Jungle, village and terrance. During the Nagarkot to Dhulikhel walk, there are very few options for food and water, so we recommend that you carry a bottle of water and some energy snacks with you for the trek.
You can drive from Kathmandu to Nagarkot ( we will pick up from your hotel) in the morning and head further Club Himalaya resort. Below this hotel, you will find a small walking trail which cuts across the hillside and takes you towards Rhonnie Bhangyang. The views of the Panchkhal valley to your left are very good and given the clear weather you should get views of the mid Himalayas including Mt.Everest Range.

Follow the rugged track until you come to a flat spot of land and couple of farm houses and this will be Rhonnie Bhangyang.
Follow the road straight, do not take the left or right turnings. Climb up a short sharp hill and arrive at an intersection with another jeep track. Take the left turn and follow this road along the ridge. After about a kilometer, a small trail on the right takes you down into the next valley. Follow the main jeep track back down into the valley below Nagarkot and you want to keep Nagarkot over your left shoulder. Follow the track steely downhill through the hillside with dotted villages. You are aiming for a vague ridge between two valleys and you will pass through the villages of Kankre and Tanchok, further from Ghimrie geon.

From Tanchok, you will meet another main jeep track that you need to follow to your right and uphill for around a kilometer to Tusal. Here you need to head right to the Larsish town of Opi where you cross the main jeep track and head directly to Dhulikhel. The trail meets the Arniko Highway (1) one kilometers from the main town of Dhulikhel, at Himalayan Horizons Hotel. To get into town you need to turn right and head uphill.
After having lunch you can come back to Kathmandu.
    OR
You can also end the Nagarkot hike at Nala or Banepa to make it (1) one hour shorter. The trail follows to Ghimire Geoun and it is a wonderful spot to witness the landscapes.
We will eventually get back to Kathmandu by car or bus.
Nagarkot to Dhulikhel is also for day biking trips.

  • option 2 : Namoboudha day hike

Namoboudha is situated at the hill top of Panauti and is a very important Buddhist pilgrimage located in Kavre District about 38 kilometers, east of Kathmandu valley. The stupa and shrines build on this hill has significantly made marks and is an ancient holy site where according to the legendary story, a prince named Mahasttva offered himself to the starving Tigress who had several underfed cubs. This legendary episode is depicted in a stone slab and placed right next to the holy stupa.

We drive 35 kilometers, east of Kathmandu for about one and half hours to a place called Dhapasi via an ancient Newar town called Panauti with packed lunch boxes. From Dhapasi we follow the uphill trail forward to north - east direction and the trail narrows. We cross a suspension bridge and pass through many small villages to a huge rice field which will give you chance to see “How Nepali People plant and harvest the crops”. From here we hike steep uphill for about an hour to reach Namoboudha.

After lunch we will continue walking on the trails to Dhulikhel and we drive back to Kathmandu or opt to stay for the night at Dhulikhel.
This Panauti Namoboudha - Dhulikhel is an excellent day hike around Kathmandu to see rural village life and Buddhist pilgrimage.

The magnificent view from eastern part of Annapurna range to Gaurishanker in the east can be seen from this spot, on a clear day. It also provides breathtaking view of Kathmandu valley and is well known for bird watching.

After lunch we will hike down, following the same trail to Godavari for about (2) two hours and drive back to Kathmandu. Total trip about 6 to 8 hours

  • option 4 : Champadevi day hike

After breakfast at the hotel, we drive 16 kilometers for about an hour to a place called Pharping (on the way to Dakshinkali Temple) with packed lunch boxes.

From Pharping we start our hike, gradually going up for about half an hour along the trails toward the north ridge and through pine forested areas. From here, we continue hiking gradually up, following the trails for about another (3) three hours to Champadevi. It is also known as Vegetarian goddess.

The view of central and western Himalayan Ranges are magnificent from here and after lunch, we continue to hike down to Hattiban for about (2) two hours where we can see from a bird’s eye view - the Kathmandu valley, Langtang and Ganesh mountain range.
The day hike of Champadevi can be combined with monastery visit at Pharping or Bungamati and Khokana cultural trip at extra cost.
We will drive back to Kathmandu later in the evening. Total about 6 to 8 hours trip.

  • option 5 : Nagarjuna day hike

Located north-west of Kathmandu it takes 20 minutes by car and 2 and half hours to hike up to the Nagarjuna hill, which is also, called the historical Jamacho Peak at 6,300 feet. The mountain is called Nagarjuna hills because Nagarjuna's cave-residence is found here and this is where he performed his meditations.

Besides Nagarjuna cave there are some other caves of Buddha, Mahasiddhas.
One of the famous stories of the Buffalo Buddha is that , a long time ago when Acharya Nagarjuna was living in his cave, an idiot buffalo herdsman from Kathmandu became possessed by faith in the master and came to him frequently, offering curd and milk etc. Once when he asked Nagarjuna to come to town with him, the master refused, saying, 'If you are able to meditate upon perfect reality, sit down here'. So he did as he was told, but obsessed by his work of guarding the buffaloes he could not think of anything else but the buffaloes!

'Visualize yourself as a buffalo' instructed the Acharya, so he meditated in what today is called the Cave of the Buffalo Buddha and after a while he actually became a buffalo! His horns struck the rock above him and the holes, which today are known as his horn-prints. Eventually, Nagarjuna told him to contemplate his body in its natural state of total relaxation and meditating according to his instructions, the herdsman came to his senses and became sharp and alert.

After he had accomplished the aim of his mediation, it is said that he shot through the roof of the cave and went straight to the Dakini's Paradise.
It is also claim that Maha Manjushree, who is supposed to be the founder of Kathmandu valley, saw Kathmandu valley as a lake from this point. In a clear day you can see whole Ganesh Himal, Manasalu and Lantang range from here and also the Kathmandu valley. On The top have small stupa. You hike down same trail though forest. Total about 6 to 8 hours hike.

After breakfast at the hotel, we drive for about 40 minutes to Budhanilkantha Temple which is (8) kilometers, north of Kathmandu. From Budhanilkantha we walk through Shivapuri conservation area. This is a Government protected forest where many species of plants, birds and butterflies are found.
We start our hike from the southern boundary of the area where the army check post is located.

Nagi Gumpa is situated at an altitude of 2330 meters, north of Kathmandu and above Budhanilkantha Temple is the only monastery for Nuns of Buddhism and foreigners often come there for meditation.

It is a steep uphill hike through narrow and dusty trail for about half an hour and two hours of gradual uphill trail to Shivapuri.
After lunch, we take a short cut down hill trail to Kopan for about two hours and drive back to Kathmandu.

This route is also known for cycling trails, bird watching and Jungle walks. Total time 6 to 8 hours.

  • option 7 : Nagarkot to Changunarayan hike

Nagarkot is at 7200 feet from sea level and is the most popular hill station within the Kathmandu valley for viewing the Himalayas. Everest range. The view of the sunrise over the Himalayas from Nagarkot is simply brilliant, on a clear day.

The walk is mostly downhill and offers grand views of the mountains, hills, villages, temples and Kathmandu valley. The trail is wide and easy to walk on, as long as one is geared with good hiking shoes. In totality, the trip introduces Nepal's natural and cultural heritages.
