Dolpo Trek – “The Caravan Trek” Nepal - 22 Days

Dolpo or Dolpa Trek – “The Caravan Trek”

EXPLORE ONE OF THE REMOTE ANCIENT BUDDHIST LANDS OF NEPAL
The remote western region of Nepal Dolpa runs parallel to the image of the “Shangri-la” of Bhutan in many aspects. One has to see the landscapes in all of its rugged natural beauty and experience the remoteness to understand Dolpo. The nature and culture of upper Dolpa is very rich, coloful and almost beyond measure.

The high and isolated valley of Dolpo in northern Nepal preserves some of the Himalayas’ last remnants of traditional Tibetan culture. According to legends, the Guru Rinpochhe created Dolpo as a sanctuary for devout Buddhists and it was only opened to trekkers in 1990.  It was forbidden land for many years.
Cut off from the world by high mountains and snow-covered passes, Dolpo is the permanant home to about 5000 people whose lives are centered on Buddhism and traditional agricultural practices. The distinctive people, architecture and unique light conditions make Dolpo a photographer’s paradise.

One of our potential destinations, that is the Shey Gompa which is a wild land and we will have to take advantage of the prevailing conditions
The Himalayan range can be seen in its entire splendor and Phoksondo Lake along with the Ringmo village provides some of the most beautiful landscape scenery in the world that is hard to believe.
In our Dolpo trek follow the ancient Tibetan salt caravan route, across two high passes and through the wilderness in one of Nepal’s most remote areas.

In the Dolpo region the monsoons, created by the sea winds blowing from the Gulf of Bengal, is tempered by the Dhaulagiri range and trekking is therefore also possible during the summer, a period during which flora like orchids, edelweiss, campanules, forget-me-not, explodes in all its splendor.
The center of attraction is the exquisite Lake Phoksundo, famous for forever changing its color.
Here are steps on to the edge of the Trans-Himalayan plateau that extends from Tibet down into Nepal. This is the region of some of Nepal’s most remarkable wildlife, including the blue sheep, the Serow and Snow Leopard. The snow Leopard and Himalayan pilgrimage have contributed to revealing the mystery and attraction of Dolpo.
