My wife and I went hiking in Nepal for a second time, now doing the Three Passes trek in Sagarmatha National Park after having done the Annapurna circuit in 2014. Of course, we chose to re-engage the services of Earthbound Expeditions after our previous great experience. Again Earthbound was great and did not disappoint. Trip planning was very smooth, made possible with several email exchanges with Rajan, the owner who stays on top of everything. The company’s preferred hotel in Kathmandu, Thamel Ecoresort, continues to be an oasis of peace and tranquility in the chaotic city, well located in the center of Thamel. Our trek took a total of 18 days and it went clockwise from Lukla to Namche, Thame valley, Renjo La pass, Gokyo, Cho La pass, Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar, Kongma La pass, Chukkung and back to Namche & Lukla. Throughout the entire trek, we had the tremendous support of our guide Bishal Kulung Rai and our porter Rishi Rai. Both made huge positive differences in our trip. The three passes trek is not easy and requires thoughtful planning at each stage of the trek. Bishal not only guided us safely through the three 5500m passes; he used his extensive experience to help us manage altitude well and make decisions regarding trip routing and when to cross the passes. He was very understanding our our individual needs, very helpful with language and did all communications and logistics with lodging staff. We enjoyed the best rooms at every lodge as he called in advance before every trek segment and reserved not just any room but the best room. We felt very fortunate to get Bishal as a guide. Rishi, our porter, was also formidable. Despite his small size, he carried all of our gear like clockwork throughout the entire trek and was always there to help us negotiate and even pull us through in difficult stretches. Overall, we commend Earthbound not just for the attention they provide but also for the service quality of their guides and porters. We would not hesitate to hire them again in our next trip.
