INDIA, NEPAL, TIBET AND CHINA TOUR
This incredible 23-day, South Asian journey begins from Delhi, India where you will see Agra (Taj Mahal) and Varanasi (Ganges), then head to Kathmandu, Nepal where you will then take a high-road overland trip to Lhasa (Tibet) driving on one of the world’s most beautiful, picturesque highways and then end the tour in Beijing with the highest train ride in the world which includes a tour of Xi’an.

Spend the entire day in New Delhi and Old Delhi

Today you\'ll explore the essential tourist hubs of the Indian capital ‘Delhi.\' Some of them include

• Red Fort
Red Fort (Lal Qila) is the pinnacle of the Mughal style of architecture, and it portrays a blend of Hindu, Timurid and Persian traditions. This iconic landmark was made in the mid-17th century and was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The fort comprises of red sandstone walls, and it took almost a decade to complete. Travelers are easily impressed by the fort\'s palaces, entertainment halls, projecting balconies and mosque. The most attractive aspect of this fort is the Hall of Public Audience.

• Jama Masjid
This Masjid towers over Old Delhi and is the largest Masjid in India. The Masjid is made with red sandstone and white marble and shows the architecture of the Mughal Empire. The Masjid took over 5000 artisans to build and took six years to complete. The major attractions of this Masjid are the numerous relics, footmarks, and a red beard-hair of the Holy Prophet Mohammad.

• Raj Ghat
The Raj Ghat is a memorial that is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, it is a black marble platform which is made at the spot of the cremation of the great ‘Mahatma Gandhi.\'

• ChandniChowk
Immerse yourself in the culture and charm of Old Delhi by exploring one of the oldest markets in Old Delhi ‘ChandniChowk’. To say that the street is just ‘busy’ would be an understatement. The street is always flocked with people who are shopping for spices, dried fruits, and beautiful saris. Wander at the architectural marvels, ornately decorated shops and taste the delicious cuisines.

• India Gate
The India Gate is a war memorial that is dedicated to the 70000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who lost their lives from 1914 to 1921 in the First World War. The Gate portrays the architectural style of an arch. Names of the soldiers that died in the war are engraved on the Indian Gate. At night, the Gate illuminates, which further adds to its beauty.

•RashtrapatiBhavan
This enigmatic building is home to the President of the world\'s largest democracy. Sir Lutyens first conceptualized the structure, and it took the efforts of thousands of laborers to make his vision a reality. The building opened for the public in August 2012, and now travelers can explore its numerous halls and gardens. The RashtrapatiBhavan has hosted many important occasions as well.

• SansadBhavan
The British architect Edwin Lutyens designed the SansadBhavan, and it took six years to complete. Extensive gardens surround the building.
Often called as the business hub of Delhi, this place proudly displays its Georgian-style buildings along with the global chain stores, old cinemas, and Indian restaurants. You can visit the old cinema halls and the Central Park which is a favorite hangout for locals. The place is a hub for notable venues as well.

Delhi to Jaipur

After exploring the beautiful city of Delhi, we head towards the City of Forts, ‘Jaipur.\' We drive for about 5 hours, and on the road, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. Jaipur is the largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, and it consists of forts that hold great architectural and cultural significance. We visit the magnificent Amer Fort, which is situated about 11 km from the outskirts of Jaipur City. The Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is constructed of red sandstone and marble. The palace once housed the famed Rajput Maharajas and their families. We visit the famous Hawa Mahal and prepare to have your mind blown by its honeycomb shaped and beautifully carved windows. Visit the Mahal early in the morning to watch the sun rays illuminate the Mahal.

Jaipur to Agra

After Jaipur, the city of Taj Mahal, Agra awaits you. A 4.15-hour drive from Jaipur leads you to Agra. Visit the massive Agra fort which has many historical feats associated with it. This monument is located at a distance of 2.5 km from the Taj Mahal and was erected by the Hindu SikarwarRajputs.

Taj Mahal visit

Today, you will visit the iconic landmark of love, and one of the major attractions of India, ‘Taj Mahal.’ This grand mausoleum serves as a resting place for the wife of the late emperor Shah Jahan. One look at this white architectural marvel is enough to make anyone shock in wonder. This tomb depicts the Mughal style of architecture, and its designs are so intricate and unique, that the Emperor had cut off the hands of the artists who designed it, out of fear that such monument might be carved again. Explore the interior and exterior of this dramatic enigma, and understand what it means to love someone truly.

Agra to Varanasi

After exploring the secrets of Agra, we head towards the religious city of Varanasi. You have the option to visit Varanasi either by plane or by train. This holy city has a certain mystic appeal in it that attracts thousands of pilgrims every year to dive into its divine aura. Varanasi is the sacred city of, and it has numerous tales and mysteries that are associated with it. Enjoy your stay here by exploring its holy temples, bathe in the mighty Ganga river and talk with the saints and sadhus who have given up every human attachment.

Kathmandu sightseeing

After a delicious breakfast, we head for travel in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. They are:

• Swoyambhunath:
A journey up to this monumental stupa with glittering golden spires provides the travelers with a picturesque view of the Kathmandu Valley and it is a must visit for those who wish to dive in the knowledge of Buddhism. The word Swoyambhunath means self-existent one and history dictates that it was made in the 13th century. At Swoyambhu, immerse yourself in the devotion of God by spinning the prayer wheels, with a backdrop of religious prayer ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ and the beautiful fragrance of incense. :

• Boudhanath:
The Boudhanath Stupa takes its place among the largest stupas in South Asia. The gigantic white mound spreads 36 meters, and on top of it, there\'s a square tower consisting of the holy Buddha eyes facing all four directions. Prayer flags tied to the stupa flutter in the wind carrying the hopes of people to heaven. As Tibetans inhabited the area in the 1950s, you can see the remains of Tibetan culture to this day too and enquire with them to get in-depth knowledge about their culture. Turn the prayer wheels and circle the stupa as you say your prayers amidst the crowd and pleasant yet strong fragrance of incense. :

• Pashupatinath:
One of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages in the world is ‘Pashupatinath.’ A small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was built here in 879 AD, but the temple stood in its current format 1697 AD when King BhupatindraMalla made it. This temple is an example of architectural magnificence as the gold-plated roof, silver roofs and woodcarvings of the highest caliber soothe and simultaneously amaze you. The temple comprises of Linga images of Lord Shiva along with numerous statues and shrines. A walk in this temple shows you the true meaning of life as in the yards you’ll see young boys doing ‘Bratabandha’ which starts their journey to adulthood and on the other hand you’ll witness the deceased being cremated in the banks of the holy river Bagmati, indicating that life is short. Talk with the sages residing there and expand your knowledge on Hinduism.

Kathmandu to Nagarkot

Breathe the crisp air straight from the abode of nature as the lush green hills of the tranquil hill station of Nagarkot enthralls anyone that roams in its environment. This hill station is the perfect hub to escape the urban hustle. Make your way to the summit by navigating through lush greenery, quaint villages and on the route; you might be able to witness the wilderness thriving there. People are shocked by its serene ambiance, emerald hills as far the eye can see with a backdrop of the majestic crystal peaks including the Annapurna range and the Jugal range. Drive back via Bhaktapur, and admire the villages and terraces of this beautiful countryside. At evening, join the Earthbound Expeditions team for a delicious Nepali dinner and enjoy a cultural show. You can pick the Tibet visa this day.

Kathmandu-Zhangmu/Naylem

Today, we head towards Zhangmu Tibet, via the Kodari highway. The route provides a picturesque view of the surrounding ambiance. After you reach Zhangmu, complete the immigration and customs formalities. It might take some time so that we will be staying overnight at Hotel Zhangmu or Naylam.

Naylem/Zhangmu to Xegar

The distance from Zhangmu to Xegar is 251, and the route provides the beautiful view of the surrounding environment. The path crosses the Lalung La pass, which is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5050 meters. The road is long, and it crosses several mountain passes through remote areas. This region is affected by heavy mists. As you arrive in Xegar, you’ll be amazed by its barren landscape, which closely resembles that of a Hollywood movie. You might experience altitude sickness so be careful. One of the prominent landmarks of Xegar is its monastery which was built back in the 1200s.

Xegar to Shigatse

After exploring the landmarks of Xegar, we head towards the city of Shigatse, which takes about 7 hours. Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet, and its main attraction is the Tashilhunpo Monastery. This city beams with life, and it sprawls with life. Wander at the Potala-duplicate ShigatseDzong, perched high on top of the hilltop and the glorious view from the top is something that will ignite your imagination. Navigate inside the Tashilhunpo, which was the seat of the Panchen Lama.

Xigatse to Gyantse

Aat morning, we visit the TashiLhunpo monastery, and then we head towards the beautiful city of Gyantse. Gyantse lies on the historic trade route between India and Tibet. It is considered as one of Tibet’s central hub after Lhasa and Shigatse. This small town has managed to maintain its originality and the somber charm despite the increase in modernization. You have the option of visiting the Tsechen monastery, and the Guru Lhakhang temple.

Gyantse to Lhasa

Head towards the vital city of Lhasa, by driving through the Karo La Pass and the Kamba La Pass. These passes provide a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, along with the Yamdrok Lake and the sapphire sky. En route to Lhasa, cross the roaring Brahmaputra river.

Lhasa sightseeing

Lhasa has so many tourist sites that a single day is not sufficient to visit each one. The famous landmark of Tibet is the mighty Potala Palace which was built in 637 AD, and it contains over 1000 rooms and 10,000 shrines. Visit the immaculate Norbulingka or Summer Palace which is often referred to as the ‘Park of Treasure\' and was abode to the Dalai Lama. Depending on the time we will take you to different monasteries around Lhasa. Some of which are the Sera and Derphung monasteries. After touring, we will head towards the bustling bazaar of Barkhor which provides ample opportunity to shop for souvenirs.

Xian sightseeing

Explore the nook and cranny of the city of Xian. The city boasts various landmarks that are worthy of exploration. Visit the famed Terracotta warriors which is not only a delightful sight, but it is one of the best archaeological discoveries in the world. The life-size army of thousands of soldiers stand ready in battle position and guard the ruler of China. Visit the iconic big goose pagoda, that is a prime example of a Tang style pagoda structure and was built around 652 AD. Visit the Belltower and indulge yourself in some shopping. Transfer to the railway station to head for Beijing.
