The recent devastating flood in the Kyirung / Rasuwa area of Nepal has definitely impacted the border area and the Bhotekoshi River valley and has temporarily suspended the Kailash Mansarovar overland route through this area.

However, the entire Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not suspended. Kailash tours using alternative routes, such as flying via Lhasa to Ali / Purang or using the northern route to Kailash, are operating.

Earthbound Expeditions may operate two or three additional Kailash Mansarovar Yatra trips in 2026 using the alternative routes.

It is also important to understand that the whole of Nepal has not been affected by the flood. The main impact is in the Bhotekoshi / Trishuli River valley area. Other parts of Nepal are operating normally, including tourist destinations, hotels, airports, roads, tours, and trekking routes.

There are several Nepal–China border points/routes that can be used for travel to Kailash Mansarovar. These include:

• Zhangmu / Nyalam – Kodari: Entry may be temporarily suspended, while exit remains possible.
• Korala Border: An alternative Nepal–China border route.
• Simikot / Hilsa Border: Another route for Kailash Mansarovar travel.

Despite the flood after August 26, 2026, our group of 28 pilgrims (Yatris) who were already in the Kailash region successfully completed their Yatra and returned home safely and happily.

Where can I find the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra dates for 2027? Is Earthbound Expeditions running the 2027 Kailash Yatra?

Yes. Earthbound Expeditions plans to operate Kailash Mansarovar Yatra programs in 2027.

Most likely, many Kailash Mansarovar tours will enter Tibet through China, using routes such as Beijing or Chengdu to Lhasa, followed by travel to Saga and Kailash. Depending on border conditions and government regulations, travelers may exit through the Zhangmu / Nyalam–Kodari border to Kathmandu.

After completing the Kailash Yatra, pilgrims can also continue to Pashupatinath, Muktinath, and other destinations in Nepal before returning to India or continuing their journey to destinations such as the USA or Australia.

Possible Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Routes for 2027

1. Via Beijing / Chengdu – Lhasa – Saga – Kailash – Zhangmu / Nyalam – Kathmandu

   Travel from Beijing or Chengdu to Lhasa, then continue to Saga and Kailash Mansarovar. This itinerary can also include Everest Base Camp before continuing to Kathmandu through the Zhangmu / Nyalam border.

   Earthbound Expeditions has organized many Kailash trips using this route. It is considered one of our safest, shortest, and most reasonable options.

2. Via Zhangmu / Nyalam – Saga – Kailash

   Enter Tibet through the Zhangmu / Nyalam border, travel to Saga and then Kailash Mansarovar, and return to Kathmandu or Lhasa depending on the itinerary and border conditions.

3. Via Kathmandu – Lhasa – Kailash

   Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa and then travel by road using the northern or southern route to Kailash Mansarovar. Return can be arranged through Zhangmu / Nyalam where permitted.

4. Via Kathmandu – Nepalgunj – Simikot – Hilsa – Mansarovar – Kailash

   Travel from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, then continue to Simikot and Hilsa before entering Tibet and proceeding to Mansarovar and Mount Kailash. The return can be arranged through the same route or via Zhangmu / Nyalam, subject to border and travel conditions.

5. Via Lhasa – Ali / Purang – Mansarovar – Kailash

   Fly to Lhasa and continue to Ali / Purang Airport, followed by an overland journey to Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash. Return can be arranged through the same route or via Zhangmu / Nyalam, depending on the prevailing conditions.

In Nepal, apart from the affected Bhotekoshi / Trishuli valley, other major tourist destinations, trekking areas, hotels, roads, and airports are operating normally.
