Overview

A JOURNEY TO THE BUDDHIST MONASTERIES AND HIMALAYAS

In our Sikkim Darjeeling tour with Bhutan extension, you will witness the century-old Buddhist monasteries, walk the mountain cliffs and hike the rice paddies stair-steps down the steep hillsides. Your eastern Himalayan journey begins with the arrival and transfer to Darjeeling where we include a ride on the narrow-gauge mountain railways and witness the sunrise over Kanchenjunga Himalaya from Tiger Hill.

Visit the capital of Sikkim, Gangtok and visit the famous Karmapa’s Monastery Rumtek. Travel to Kalimpong which was once an important trading post for these parts of the land. From Kalimpong, our road then descends into the plains known as duars which are filled with the lush tea garden.

Eventually, we will cross into Phuntsholing ( India – Bhutan border),  while in Bhutan discover Bhutan’s captivating cultural mix, reflected in its beautiful shrines, temples, and handicrafts as you travel from south to western Bhutan; within the towns and villages of Paro, Thimphu and Punakha valley. Hike Bhutan’s iconic Tiger’s nest monastery in the cliff. Explore the Dzongs, ancient fortresses that once protected the kingdom of Bhutan from enemies.

Itinerary

Arrival Kathmandu

Arrival Kathmandu, we will come to receive you at the airport. Check in to hotel, briefing and free day.

Full day Kathmandu sightseeing and Nagarkot

After breakfast leave for a full day sightseeing in Kathmandu valley includes The Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath (a UNESCO world heritage site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also, visit Monkey Temple the Shyambhunath (2000 years old temple) and drive to Nagarkot (7, 200ft) - a beautiful hill station, which provides magnificent Mountain panorama, from Everest in the east to Annapurna in the west, eight of the world\'s tallest Mountain in peaceful rural settings. Back to Kathmandu via Bhaktapur

Early Morning sunrise and Mountain View from Nagarkot and drive back to Kathmandu, via Bhaktapur a historical town. Stay in Kathmandu, prepare for Bhutan trip. B

Fly Bhadrapur and Drive to Darjeeling, India

After breakfast, we will transfer to the Airport and fly to Bhadrapur airport ( southeast of Nepal) for one hour flight and transfer to Darjeeling. To enter to India you need your Indian visa from home. Overnight in darjeeling Tiger Hills.

Darjeeling sightseeing Tour

Early morning tour to Tiger Hills (8364 Ft / 2550 Mts at around 4 AM) to view sunrise over Kanchendzonga Peak (subject to clear weather). On way back visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. After breakfast go for a half-day sightseeing of Japanese Temple, Peace pagoda, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park & Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday), Darjeeling Ropeway Ride (Ticket cost not included & will be approx INR 180.00 per person), Tenzing & Gombu Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Center (Closed on Sunday) and panoramic view of Tea Estate. Overnight at Hotel.

Darjeeling – Gangtok / Sikkim

Drive to Gangtok (5500 Ft /1677 Mts, 130 Kms / 04 to 05 Hrs). Check in and over night at Hotel.

Gangtok Sightseeing

After breakfast go out for sightseeing covering Rumtek Monastery, Droul Chorthen, Research Institute of Tibetology, Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom (Closed on Sunday), and Flower Show & Enchey Monastery. Evening free to explore Gangtok. Overnight at Hotel.

Gangkok – Phuntsoling

After breakfast Transfer to Phuntsoling ( India - Bhutan boarder town). Evening free to explore the town. Overnight at Hotel.

Phuentsholing-Thimphu

After breakfast, drive to Thimphu which will takes about 5 Hours. In Thimphu visit 1. National Memorial Stupa – built in memory of our late 3rd King. 2. Tashichho Dzong – built as a fortress in 17th century but now used as the “Seat of the Royal Government” Overnight: Hotel in Thimphu

Thimphu- Punakha

In the Morning Visit, Buddha Point – Largest Statue of Buddha and also can get a good view of Thimphu. 1. Drive to Punakha(3 Hrs drive) via Dochula - The pass is located at an elevation of 3,100 meters 2. Chimi Lhakhang- dedicated to Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known to the west as the divine mad man-30 minutes hike. 3. Punakha Dzong- Most impressive Dzong in the Country located at the confluence of the two rivers. Punakha was also the former Capital of Bhutan Overnight: Hotel In Punakha

Punakha - Paro

Drive to Paro, which is about 4 hours. Visit: 1. Ta Dzong an ancient watchtower, which now houses the National Museum 2. Paro Dzong- The centre of civil and religious authority in this valley. A short walk takes you to the base of the Dzong and across a traditional cantilevered, covered bridge. A short distance further is one of the innumerable archery grounds. (Archery is the national sport of Bhutan). If we are lucky, we may catch a match in action. Overnight Paro at hotel

Paro - Tiger nest hike

1. Drive to the foothills of the Taktsang Monastery and from here hike up to the monastery ( Hike to Tiger\'s nest around 5 hours hike - round trip ), which is approximately 1000 meters above the Paro valley. There is an option of a pony ride (on extra payment) - up the hill only. 2. Kichu Lhakhang- The oldest temple founded in 7th century by Tibetan king Songsang Gangpo Overnight Paro at hotel

Departure to Kathmandu / Delhi / Bangkok

After breakfast, you can depart to Kathmandu / Delhi or Bangkok, Singapore or Kolkata.
