The Bardia National Park was established in 1969 as a Royal Hunting Reserve. In 1976 it was announced as the Karnali wildlife reserve with an area of 368 sq. km and in 1982 it was renamed as Bardia National Park. In 1988 it was extended to cover the whole Babai Valley to 968 square kilometers and now the area has been doubled up.
Bardiya National Park is located in the mid-far western region on the eastern bank of the Karnali River, about 600 km west of Kathmandu.
Bardiya is the largest and the most undisturbed wilderness area in the Terai of Nepal. Bardiya national park is thickly forested by Sal trees and is carpeted with grass, Savannah, and riveting forest. It is a regenerated habitat for endangered species like the rhinoceros, wild elephants, tigers, swamp deer, black bucks, crocodiles and the Gangetic dolphin.
Endangered birds include the Bengal florican, lesser florican, Silver-eared media, and Sarus Crane. More than 30 different mammals, over 300 species of resident and migratory birds and many reptiles and fishes have been found to be thriving here. Jungle Safari in Bardiya national park is very rewarding as you can see Tigers and many other animals. Breakfast. • Flight to Nepalgunj. It will be approximately an hour’s flight. • At Nepalgunj airport. Earthbound Expeditions representative will pick you up and take you to the resort, which is about 2.30 hours drive. Welcome drink will be served upon arrival. • Lunch. • Natures walk to the jungle. • Dinner at 7.30 PM. • Overnight at Wildlife Resort.
Early morning wake up call. • Tea/coffee at 6.30 AM. • 7.00 AM breakfast will be served. Then you will be taken to the Jungle to see the mighty Karnali River with all its aquatic games, birds and crocodiles. If you are lucky you might see the Gangetic dolphins, too. • Lunch. • Rest for a while. • An elephant back safari to explore the great one horned rhinoceros, four types of deer’s, monkeys, wild boars, leopards. If you are lucky you might get the privilege to witness the elusive tiger as well. • Nepalese buffet dinner will be served at 7.30 PM. • There will be native folk dance to entertain you in the evening. • Overnight at Nepal Wildlife Resort.
Early Morning wake up call. • Tea / coffee at 6.00AM. • 6.30 AM - Bird watching tour through Bardia National Park. There are 360 different species of birds in the park. • Breakfast. • Visit the ethnic Tharu Village to have a close look at their social and cultural life. • Return to the resort to prepare for journey to Nepalgunj. • Catch a flight to Kathmandu.
