The Namoboudha monastery is about 40 km away from Kathmandu, and after reaching there, travelers are surprised by the immense beauty it possesses. The environment is immaculate with lush greenery terrace everywhere, majestic blue sky and then the mighty Himalayas in the background. Ancient history dictates that a prince once sacrificed himself to feed a hungry Tigress. From his remains, a temple was built which then later transformed into the current day Namobuddha may mean new Buddha. Enjoy your hike around Kathmandu valley vista as you meditate in the tranquil environment with the winds gently blowing at your face and the sound of fluttering prayer flags with the mixture of Buddhist chants.

Namoboudha is situated at the hill top of Panauti and is a very important Buddhist pilgrimage located in Kavre District about 38 kilometers, east of Kathmandu valley. The stupa and shrines build on this hill has significantly made marks and is an ancient holy site where according to the legendary story, a prince named Mahasttva offered himself to the starving Tigress who had several underfed cubs. This legendary episode is depicted in a stone slab and placed right next to the holy stupa. We drive 38 kilometers, east of Kathmandu for about one and half hours to a place called Dhapasi via an ancient Newar town called Panauti with packed lunch boxes. From Dhapasi we follow the uphill trail forward to north - east direction and the trail narrows. We cross a suspension bridge and pass through many small villages to a huge rice field which will give you chance to see “How Nepali People plant and harvest the crops”. From here we hike steep uphill for about an hour to reach Namoboudha. After lunch we will continue walking on the trails to Dhulikhel and we drive back to Kathmandu or opt to stay for the night at Dhulikhel. This Panauti Namoboudha - Dhulikhel is an excellent day hike around Kathmandu to see rural village life and Buddhist pilgrimage. Total trip 6 to 8 hours
Awesome tour company We booked a tour with Earthbound Expeditions for our 20th anniversary. We spent a day in Kathmandu and 4 days hiking to Poon Hill. We were well taken care of the entire time by Rajan and his team. We enjoyed our time with Ramjee and Rajendra. They seemed to know when we needed rest and were also pushing us on the miss the rain which was very much appreciated. Poon Hill is with the steps and the “Nepali flat” hikes.

Earthbound travel did an extraordinary job taking care of travelers needs by accommodating last minute requests seamlessly. The crew took extensive care of diet and physical wellbeing of each traveller. Arjun the main guide for our Manasorvar-Kailash trip did an exceptional job managing his team and our group of 23. While he was firm on timings and expectations from each of us he provided physical and mental support where needed. Overall I would recommend Earthbound travel , Rajan , Kedar and team for their experience and competence managing complex planning and execution of trips in Nepal / Tibet regions!

The expedition with earthbound to Kailash and Manasarovar was excellent. The attention to details provided by the ownership and the team was exceptional. They showed complete professionalism in handling any exigencies and situation that arose during our travel. They took care of every individual personally and provided necessary remedies immediately without hesitation. They also took care of individuals to make them acclimatize for higher altitudes, to prepare them for the expedition.
